Even in a totally adverse epidemic scenario, the first level of Rio de Janeiro's state courts managed to reduce its total collection by 2.1 million cases. Before the crisis triggered by the coronavirus, in December 2019, Rio de Janeiro's lower court had 9.5 million cases pending. The number was reduced to 7.4 million in June 2021, just a year and a half apart. In 2020 alone, almost 2 million cases were judged and another 885 thousand by the middle of 2021. This large reduction in the collection was achieved thanks to the implementation of the Active Debt Management Model project, which has already resulted in the reduction of 2.4 million processes.
The initiative was also responsible for archiving 3 million active debt cases in 2019 and 2020, half of the actions filed in the previous biennium. From December 2019 to October 2020, the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro collected R$92 million through tax enforcement Telegram Number Data processes, an increase of 7.3%, or R$6,275,506.17, in relation to the years of 2017 and 2018. At the head of the Judicial Coordination of Articulation of Courts with Competence in Active Debt (Codat), judge Flávia Romano de Rezende celebrates the result. She recognizes that the number of executions is still high, but understands that the TJ-RJ is on the right path.
Today, active debt processes represent 51% (3.8 million) of all court cases – a volume significantly lower than the 61.7% (6.4 million) recorded in 2015.
