werner herzog, ingmar bergman, chris marker, robert bresson, andrei tarkovsky, todd solondz, rainer fassbinder, michael haneke, mary ackerman, claire denis, hiroshi teshigahara are some directors i like a lot
i have others but i feel like this is 'enough' right now
i hope you guys like films too, speak your minds

yes never seen not really what other gay movie stuff should i like. movies with gay characters/themes that i like weekend - andrew haigh in the year of 13 moons - rainer werner fassbinder je tu il elle - mary ackerman happy together - wong kar wai i can't sleep - claire denis any of derek jarman's stuff, last of england/jubilee are my favourites maybe they're all great. a lot of those directors have similar themes in other films so checkem. im cool with giving reccs to people if you post fav movies/directors if anyone's interested in that or anything idc im waiting for uni to start and not doing anything in life |

I'm going to film school in chicago next fall. Favorite director is Terrence Malick. Gaspar Noe and Wes Anderson follow that. Andrei Tarkovsky is my father figure.

Shane Carruth, the guy who wrote/directed/shot/edited/scored/stared in Primer back in 2004 (one of my favorite movies of all time) debuted his second movie at Sundance this year that I'm really excited to get a chance to check it out. Primer was shot on real (analog) film and the whole budget came in under $7,000 (pretty much unheard of when the average "indi" movie in the US has a budget of $3,000,000). It won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance the year it came out. I can't recommend it enough. I think he's only ok honestly but a lot of people seem to like him so don't worry so much and besides there's no point filtering your taste based on what other people might think of you anyway.
